HISTORY 

De Droste fabriek was opened in 1890 as the first factory of the confectionary and cake baker Gerardus Johannes Droste.

The factory struggled when over the years the work was slowly taken over by machines. In 1977 Droste lost its independence to an American company. Less than ten years later the factory moves to the Gelderse Vaassen. The factory in Haarlem was vacant.

In 2007 we started with the partial demolition of the historic Droste site. It was converted into a new center of contemporary living and working. A total of 229 homes and apartments.
The factory silo and the national monument with the trusted Droste nurse are the two most characteristic industrial buildings , they had to be retained.

GESCHIEDENIS 

De Droste fabriek werd in 1890 geopend als eerste fabriek van de banket- en koekebakker Gerardus Johannes Droste.

De fabriek had het moeilijk toen in de loop der jaren het werk langzaam werd overgenomen door machines. In 1977 verloor Droste haar zelfstandigheid aan een Amerikaans bedrijf. Nog geen tien jaar later verhuist de fabriek naar het Gelderse Vaassen. De fabriek in Haarlem kwam leeg te staan.

In 2007 is begonnen met het gedeeltelijk slopen van het historische Droste terrein. Het werd verbouwd tot een nieuw centrum van eigentijds wonen en werken. In totaal 229 woningen en appartementen.
De fabriekssilo en het rijksmonument met de vertrouwde Droste verpleegster zijn de twee meest kenmerkende industriegebouwen, zij moesten behouden blijven.
